My dear husband, this would be the standard you would have to beat. Or, (give u chance lah), be on par with.
Yesterday we celebrated my sister's bday. her husband wanted us to be there as a surprise for this super ex $55 per person buffet dinner so he sent out emails to let us know details.
There was quite a few changes in plans.
Here's a bit of what he wrote in e email:

Dear all,
I have been tormented over the weekend by che's idea of a beautiful birthday. I have never read nor heard of such a thing but after much pretend "nonchalant" cajoling, i managed to find out what she had in mind. An italian dinner on board a private luxury yacht on a 6 hr cruise to nowhere. She apparently read it in a magazine. I have been, since the minute I stepped into the office this morning, frantically searching the net for this cruise (me: HE ACTUALLY ENTERTAINED MY SISTER'S CRAZY EXTRAVAGANT IDEA). I finally found it. They are fully booked for the next few weekends. Plus, the cost is astronomical. I will endeavor nonetheless to fulfill this wish!!!! just not this year.....heh.
ANYHOOS...
as my original idea of a surprise party at a cosy french restaurant seems to pale in comparison to what che had in mind, i've had to step up my game a little. I hope she will like it. I have booked a room for a night at the brand new Amara Sanctuary Spa and Resort in Sentosa. I am in the process of selecting a Spa programme for her. Sorry for all the last minute changes!!! The dinner will be held at the Amara resort itself (Silk Road of the Sea restaurant its called).

i'm sure no matter what my sister would be very very happy.

hope so too. would like it to be a memorable birthday for her. I've got a colleague to go to the hotel while we are all having dinner to decorate the room nicely with flowers and candles. plus am also thinking of buying her the nintendo wii since she seems to like it so much. and the both of us can play together also (me: I'll just ignore that). its good for some form of exercise. haha. rather than to blow the same amount on a spa which would be over in 3hrs. hmmm...whatcha think??
well, making her happy makes me happy too, so its fun like that! but shucks if i'd just gotten my act together earlier on and found out about the yacht thing...that would have been the best (me: !!! I think i would just totally diss that idea lah! she think wad. making movie ah), with some close friends and family, should be fun. they anchor at some island and u can have your dinner on the island. plus can go swimming at some crystal clear blue waters...shiok man. okie okie, try next year.......

6 of us he treated to a $55 per person buffet dinner. My daddy totally ruined the surprise by e way he was just walking around blatantly when they were coming and all of us hiding.
The cake was supposed to be a surprise too but he ruined that too.
MY HUSBAND, PLEASE DONT END UP LIKE MY DADDY.
So, stall stall stalling her while we have dinner. Then went to go see the room!
Dinner was at sentosa and they had a room booked there for e night.
He didnt tell her though. So just three hours before they were going out he was like "eh pack clothes. We're staying the night."
WAHHHHH :D:D:D:D
OKAY.
SO.
Went to see their room after dinner.
Just to see see the hotel and stuff.
My sister opened e room door and went "aiyo! why.... -trails off, then- AHHH!!!"

I WAS GOING TO CRY LAH.
