HAPPY ANG POW DAY EVERYBODY :)
Hope everyone's happy in their collections, despite the economic crisis going around. It's still the festive spirit of family, yes no?
Holidays like these are always for the families.
You know what I hate most about this day?
Working your ass off for that one red packet.
I dunno if your parents practice it, but mine follows the tradition of words of blessings before you get to receive your packet.
So you have to think of those fancy 4Words Chinese Sayings that you put at the end of your Olevel Chinese informal letter.
And yes, i totally forgot what the informal letter exam is called in chinese.
Anyway, I was the type who researched the dictionary for that purpose. To search for cheem Chinese words that might earn me some extra points even though the rest of my letter seemed like crap.
So it was either that the 4Words Sayings i chose didn't make any sense or I didn't use it in the proper context of what (What proper context? I mean, it's the 4Words on its own what) cos the damned examiner gave me a C5 anyway.
But my point is!
That at today, early morning, with an unclear mind and rusty Chinese knowledge of what was there in the first place anyway, I was supposed to come up with suitable touching family phrases to earn my angpows.
Let me share the only 3 that came to my mind:
- Bu Bu Gao Sheng
- Xue Ye Jin Bu
- Shen Ti Jian Kang
And believe me, I thought out for more as hard as I could, but these three just kept coming to me. Number (2) can't be used since I'm e only one in e family left studying. Number (3) just sounds like I think they're gonna die soon or sth. Number (1) Sounds like some business talk.
And after that random Ci Yu started coming to my mind:
- Zi Gao Zi Da
- Zi Yan Zi Yu
- Ai Wu Jie Wu
I was like WTH?!?!?!?! How the hell are any of those supposed to help me earn my angpow?!?!
But in the end they let me say in English after I whined and kicked up a big fuss.
It wasn't easy either, me not exactly the type being lovey outwards towards my family. Especially when they were all waiting for only me to do it.
After that, me my bro my dad and mummy played mahjong!
Wah super stress cos they were all damn fast. But I supposed I learnt quite abit.
Won about two games. Not gonna tell you how many games there were in total. Haha.
But I had one extra super good game where everyone were damn shocked.
Everyone but me cos I was oblivious to what I did. I didn't strategize or plan. Haha.
I must say that mahjong is quite something to bond people.
And I'm glad I learnt it.
All thanks to the boyfriend. I shall remember to give him credit when I bring him home.
It shall give him plus points cos I think my family would admire his patience for teaching me.
They seemed quite tired with me today ahaha.
My mummy was getting scarily impatient, thank god my brother was playing to guide me through.
But it was all good laughter and fun.
Oh! And my mummy is like psychic too. She can like predict what cards you want and stuff. Haha damn funny.
She to my bro:
"You want _____ right?! I have it! You want anot?! You want then I give you let you game."
And then she takes a card and games.
In light of the festive season, I also decided to paint my nails red and french it with gold.
Heh, the colour of Angpow.

Whoosh I am so on for Chinese New Year.
Happy New year guys :)
